CityCamp Challenge

Contest Closed…We’re now communicating with each of the winners about the municipal representatives (heroes!) they want to send to City Camp

GovLoop has teamed up with Code for America to offer $500 scholarships to 4 top innovators so they can attend CityCamp on January 23-24, 2010.

Here’s how it will work:

1. From January 4 – 8, please SUBMIT and VOTE on the top municipal innovative projects across the United States.

2. Top 4 people with most votes will each receive $500 for event travel.

3. Eligible candidates will be current U.S. public servants employees.

What is the most innovative municipal project in the U.S.?

        • Graffiti Tracker

Graffiti Tracker offers graffiti tracking and analysis services for cities across the United States and Canada. Graffiti Tracker clients use GPS-enabled cameras to capture images of graffiti vandalism prior to removal and then upload the images to our web-based system for analysis. Police departments use the data to assist them in catching and prosecuting vandals, which leads to a reduction in overall graffiti and increased recovery of restitution by the cities. The Graffiti Tracker system offers interactive mapping capabilities, generates reports for police departments and district attorney's offices and links known graffiti vandals to multiple incidents.

                • Open311

Open311 is a publicly viewable and participatory way of managing 311 (the municipal non-emergency service - like a cross between 411 and 911). Some existing examples of this are FixMyStreet in the UK, Verbeterdebuurt in the Netherlands, plus SeeClickFix, CitySourced, D.C. 311, and others in the U.S.. Currently there is an effort underway to create a standard Open311 API so that 311 apps can be interoperable between cities and can integrate with a wide range of CRMs and infrastructures. The cities currently most active in this pursuit are San Francisco, Washington D.C., and Boston. SeeClickFix and other cities and entities… more

Wistowns.com is a new project to develop a software as a service system for web sites for townships. The content and data from these sites is aggregated into a separate web site that can be used to build mashups and re-purpose the data in many ways.

This system is currently being prototyped in Wisconsin, and is in the second round of judging for the Knight News Challenge.
